Last minute dash for the plane

So been beavering away, making stuff for Fuji Rock festival and getting the show together for Tokyo on the 2nd of August. The shippers have just taken the canvases, the spray paints ordered and last minute prizes for the high strikers are being made. I wouldn’t of guessed that i would have traveled to japan for the first time with a fire bell and a large rubber mallet in my bags but that’s the life of a traveling showman for you. The above shot is the last frame in of a time lapse that Calum and Saft films helped make to promote the Show, should be posted online soon (hi res version here). Well thats almost it, got the last mad run around picking up the odds and sods for both the High Strikers and the show and then its on the plane, the next post will be from Japan, but here’s a sneak peek at some of the new work for the show in japan.

Tools of the trade with the carrier of choice….lol

So that was a lesson in repetition, but the eagle has flown, excuse any delay…. it took us a bit by surprise. Every print went double tubed, with so many orders overseas it seemed best to take the extra cost on the chin rather than deal with all the extra shipping costs for damaged stuff. It was all of a bit of a learning curve for this our 1st self produced print. It was always going to be a bumpy ride, If your in the UK then expect your print tomorrow before 1pm, in other parts of the world its 3-4 days. Thanks for all the orders and of course your support. There are other prints scheduled for the year so check back in at the end of May to see whats next.

Dreams of Louis V

Since last summer i have been getting requests for this image The Dreams of Louis V to be released as a silkscreen print. It was a very popular canvas from last years Outside in show in Stavanger, Norway. The various colours in the florets would have meant multiple screens at an incredible cost.

The solution seemed to be a hand finished silkscreen edition. Printed by those nice chaps down at Another fine mesh on Arches 88 blanc cotton rag stock, 56cm x 76cm (22″ x 30″) with a deckled edge all the way round.

Then hand finished in the studio in depths of Barking
An edition of 36, signed and blind stamped by The Dotmasters,
£55

Pair of twins

Dream of Louis V

110 x  80cm A pair of canvases produced for two charity auctions, The White Ball at the end of January and the Haven House Childrens Hospice auction at Dreweatts in March. A pair of almost identical twins for a pair of deserving childrens charities.

Zadok & I

Found some stuff Zadok and i did earlier this year that never saw the light of day. It was fun to work with one of the finest drawing machines i have ever met perhaps there will be more to come later this year….who knows? You can check out his stuff at Plastic Bones . Those of you who were paying attention to last Saturdays episode of Sherlock Holmes you may of noticed that he was responsible for allot of the graffiti in that episode. Anyhow here’s a couple of stencils I cut from the Z’s sketch’s.

The one below is sprayed on some mulberry paper that a friend brought me back from Bhutan.

Lost in translation

So to return to the previous blog entry of Ill communication. Here’s the final image of a recent commission for Japan, the guy buying it saw a similarity to the work of a Japanese woodcut master Kitagawa Utamaro. High praise indeed. So with a series of misunderstood emails later, 3 canvases and a few days the finished image is completed.

Ill communication

Its funny making things for people, especially when descriptions come in another language. Here’s one that won’t see the light of day…will post the desired interpretation of the image as soon as its made. Its been a weird day, finding a common tongue between Japanese, and German and English, caught in a odd feedback loop, hopefully solved now. See here
